Need lodging on a rainy night? Better be careful. A while back the Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist filed civil complaints over price gouging and deceptive and unfair trade practices of consumers as they fled the fury of Hurricane Charley. In two separate civil complaints, the Attorney General's Office alleges that two motels charged "unconscionable" rates, substantially higher than their regular rates, to consumers seeking shelter from the storm. If this happens to you, do this: Take notes of everything that has happened. Write down the names of all employees you speak with. Make sure you record the date and time of the incident. Take your notes to the attorney general having jurisdiction for that area.
